The Haryana boxer had reached the quarterfinals after defeating North Korea’s Kim Hyang Mi in the 48kg quarterfinalsHowever, it was a heartbreak for the other debutant, Jamuna Boro, who had to settle for bronze medal after losing her women’s 54kg semi-final bout to Huang Hsiao-Wen of Chinese Taipei. Boro lost 5-0 to her opponent to settle for bronze medal.”It was my first senior World Championships and I got a bronze medal here. I tried my best but I lacked somewhere and that’s why I lost today. I’ll discuss about the loopholes with my coaches after getting back to India. I will work harder to improve,” Boro said after her bout.Other Indian in fray, Lovlina Borgohain had to be satisfied with a second successive bronze medal at the World Championships after the Assam boxer lost her 69kg semi-final to China’s Yang Liu in a close bout. Borgohain lost 3-2 to her Chinese opponent.Earlier in the day, six-time world champion and India legend MC Mary Kom had to settle for bronze medal after she lost in the semi-finals of the women’s 51kg category.Mary Kom lost 1-4 in the semis against Busenaz Cakiroglu of Turkey to win her 8th medal at the World Boxing Championships, making her the most successful boxer of all time – male or female – in the competition’s history.advertisementThe Indian contingent sought a review of the decision but the appeal was turned down by the International Boxing Association’s (AIBA) technical committee.
